It accounts for the latest legal guidance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as well as the courts to minimize any risk to your IP. Engineered from the outset with your privacy and data security in mind, Sterne Kessler’s Patent Assist AI leverages the latest advances in security and LLM confidentiality to give you the utmost confidence in how we maintain and use your data.

How Does it Work?

The typical work flow for an attorney drafting a patent application is to start with claims, then move to the drawings and diagrams, and finally to the detailed description or specification. With this in mind, Sterne Kessler’s Patent Assist AI uses a proprietary multi-step process to generate the detailed specification based on specific inputs.

Sterne Kessler’s patent professionals can then further edit the specification by using a built-in AI assistant to refine the output—for example, asking the tool to add more details to specific paragraphs or to add alternative embodiments.

While AI is used in the process, it is important to emphasize that Sterne Kessler Patent Assist AI is designed to minimize the risk of unenforceability. By design, our tool does not automatically generate diagrams or draft claims. This minimizes any risk that the AI itself could be named as an inventor and potentially make your IP unenforceable. It also provides more context to the AI so it can generate higher quality outputs.

Is It Secure?

Sterne Kessler’s Patent Assist AI was designed and architected from the ground up with security and privacy as our highest priority. We leverage our own private instances of LLM models to ensure your data cannot be accessed by third parties or “cross-contaminated” with other client data. For clients that opt-in to using the tool, we do not train any of our models with your data. Your data is encrypted using state of the art technologies and stored at rest in our own data centers in Ashburn, VA and Dallas, TX.
